  1. USRobotics Introduces 33.6 Kbps

  3. Welcome to the next level of high speed analog data communications - 
  4. 33.6 Kbps.  Your Courier modem contains new enhanced V.34 software 
  5. that provides the capability for two new connection rates:  31.2 Kbps and 
  6. 33.6 Kbps.  The new software also improves general throughput as a 
  7. result of advanced design, larger block sizes, and the implementation of 
  8. selective reject.

  10. Higher Connection Rates
  11.  
  12. While line conditions may not always allow for 33.6 connections, the 
  13. new software enhances overall performance and reliability, making it 
  14. more likely to achieve and maintain 28.8 connections.  It can even add up 
  15. to 4800 bps to your average V.34 connection rate.

  17. Selective Reject
  18.  
  19. Selective reject is part of the improved software for the "V.Everything" 
  20. modem.  You may notice significant throughput improvements over 
  21. noisy lines when connecting with other modems using this feature, as the 
  22. number of retransmitted blocks is reduced.

  24. Upgrades
  25.  
  26. 31.2 and 33.6 Kbps connection rates are only possible when connecting 
  27. with other "V.Everything" modems upgraded to the latest software 
  28. revision.  Be sure that friends and business associates using U.S. Robotics 
  29. Courier modems upgrade to the new V.34 software, so that they too can 
  30. take advantage of the higher connection rates and improved throughput 
  31. capabilities.  Upgrades are free to anyone who owns a U.S. Robotics 
  32. "V.Everything" modem.  Simply download the new software from our 
  33. free BBS service.  Complete instructions for performing software upgrades 
  34. are included in the Courier manual.

  54. New Inquiry Displays

  56. The ATI6 diagnostic screen has an extended protocol field which 
  57. displays the actual block and window sizes, and indicates when selective 
  58. reject has been negotiated.  The I11 screen displays "V34+" for 
  59. connections with other U.S. Robotics modems using the new V.34 
  60. software.

  62. Fixed Connection Rate

  64. The &N command for fixing connection rates has been extended to 
  65. support the two new speeds, adding &N15 (31.2 Kbps) and &N16 (33.6 
  66. Kbps).

  68. Feature Disable

  70. 31.2 and 33.6 Kbps may be disabled by issuing the following AT 
  71. command:

  75. Selective reject can be disabled by issuing the following command:

  79. Disabling of these features is only necessary for certain troubleshooting 
  80. purposes.

  84. Fixed synchronous mode can also operate at 31.2 and 33.6 Kbps under 
  85. V.34 with the new software upgrade.  The maximum synchronous rate 
  86. under V.25bis is 19.2 Kbps.
